Under 6s Top Tips

  • The Nipper season - begins on Sunday 9 October 2016, starting at 8:45am and finishing at approx 10:15am. Meet next to the U6 sign on the beach in front of the Club.
  • U6s are divided into groups of approximately 35 children. Each group will rotate through 3 x 20-25 minute activities each session. Identify your Age Manager and follow them to each new area at each activity changeover. On Sunday 16 October we will create the groups before we start our activities – if your child has a friend they wish to be with, let us know that day.
  • What to bring - a towel and drink bottle are to be carried at all times. Wetsuits can be worn for swim and water sessions in colder weather but they are not compulsory.
  • Cap - The Queenscliff Nipper cap with your child’s name clearly marked on the side is very important. When worn, it identifies to the Age Manager the child’s name and that the Age Manager is now partly responsible for that child. Parents must also be responsible for their children throughout the nipper’s session and must never leave the beach area without their children. At the end of nippers, caps need to be removed which identifies that parents are now fully responsible for their children.
  • Sunscreen - is to be applied before Nippers starts.
  • Lost kids – go to the Patrol tent on the beach or the Clubhouse where one of the Sunday Beach Managers will be wearing a bright yellow vest.
  • BBQ - a BBQ is set up each Sunday morning so the kids can enjoy a sausage sizzle at the conclusion of Nippers. Like most other sports, parents will be rostered on and will be responsible for the setting up and running of the BBQ on several occasions throughout the season.
  • Parent participation – the successful running of Nippers relies heavily on parent participation. Water activities require 1 parent to every 5 children in the water actively helping children through these activities. Please wear your swim costume and be part of the action, the children love it and this is what makes Queenscliff a great family oriented club.
  • Please let the Age Manager know the level of swim proficiency you believe your child has currently to ensure they receive adequate supervision. It is also a good idea to identify children that are particularly fearful of the water so they can be coached and encouraged throughout the season to alleviate those fears.
  • Wet conditions – Nippers is rarely cancelled unless dangerous surf or beach conditions prevail. If Nippers has been cancelled, we will try to email you by 7:00am to let you know.
  • If you have any questions, feedback or concerns during the season please email admin@queenscliffslsc.org.au or talk to your Age Manager on a Sunday, or call Kate Perrett, Junior Activities Co-orindator on 0412 085 369.
  • The most important tip is to have fun!!
